Vera B. Williams was born
on January 28, 1927 in Hollywood,
California.

She did not like school
but loved to draw.

School of Music and Art in NYC.

She graduated from Black
Mountain College in 1949.

She married Paul
Williams.

She has three children
named Sara, Jenny, and Merce.

In 1970, she got divorced
and moved to Canada.

She has taught art,
cooking, writing and nature study.

She has lived on a
houseboat on a bay in Vancouver, British
Columbia in Canada.

She has taken a 500 mile
canoe trip on the Yukon River in Canada.

She now lives in New York
City.
Writing Career

Her first book was
published in 1978.

She has written and
illustrated 13 books.

She also writes and draws
for adults.

In 1983, she won the
Caldecott Honor Award for her book,
A Chair for My Mother.

In 1991, she won the
Caldecott Honor Award for her book, "More
More More," Said the Baby.
